Chard CC have been awarded a sizeable council grant to cope with rain after emphasising their work in the local community, especially on behalf of youth. The assistance was well timed in view of the heavy April storms.

South Somerset District Council agreed to give Chard £5,610 for a pitch cover and drainage piping at their Dening Field ground. The club's chairman Kevin Clancy said that the last drainage bought in the 1950s had become ineffective and he mentioned that the club had 110 youth members and were encouraging more girls to play cricket.

Dave Bulmer, a councillor, said in the Yeovil Express after the district meeting: "I think you have just seen a good example of community engagement and the work Chard Cricket Club does. I would like to congratulate them on their work - it has great benefit to Chard."
