Sam Burge, received his CCC Cap from Simon Prodger, CCC Chairman of Cricket, to the applause of teammates, prior to the CCC Representative XI's match at Wanstead CC against a strong Indian side, Chemplast Sanmar.

Sam is the 250th Conference player to be awarded a Cap since 1948.

Prior to 1948 Caps were awarded to any player representing the Conference in a full representative match for the first time. Thereafter Caps were awarded (& numbered) at the discretion of the CCC Executive Council, although since the mid 1970’s they have mainly been awarded to players undertaking a major overseas tour.

With the CCC tour programme now mainly short tours to ICC Associate countries (although a major tour will occur in our Centenary year 2015), the CCC decided to award Caps to those who have played 25 or more Representative & Tour matches.

Sam has played 23 representative matches, plus 4 matches on the 2010 tour to Denmark, & 4 matches on the 2012 tour to Oman. Overall to date he has played 33 matches for the Conference, scored 959 run at an average of 36.88, with a highest score of 110.  He top scored for the Conference in the match against the MCC at Lord’s in 2011.
