Michael Peter Redmayne Welch

6th October 1942 – 13th July 2018

President 2002

Life Vice President 2003-2018

Chairman 2007-2008

Chief Executive 2008-2011

We are deeply saddened to report the death of Michael Welch, former CCC President, Chairman, Chief Executive and Councillor.

At his peak, Michael was very much ‘Mr Cricket’, also known in cricket circles throughout the land as ‘Lord’Welch.  He was associated with Teddington Cricket Club in leafy Bushy Park where he was Chairman for many years and then President before finishing as the Club’s Patron.

Between 1980 and 1982 he was Secretary of the Middlesex County Cricket League which led to his being appointed as one of the founder Vice-Presidents in 1993.  But it is his service to the wider game and specifically his work with the Club Cricket Conference for which Michael will be best remembered.

From the date Michael was co-opted on to the Tours Sub-Committee in 1982 and subsequently voted on to the Council the following year his service to the CCC spanned 29 years.

His connections with Australian cricket are legendary and will be explored more fully in the 2019 Yearbook but it includes most of the Aussie Test players during the 1980s and early 90s.

We send our deepest sympathies to his family and many friends – they definitely don’t make ‘em like Michael anymore!
