Match report:
Midlands CCC : 222 for 8 wkts (50 overs)
CCC : 224 for 5 wkts (47.3 overs) [Tom Cullen 84*]
CCC won by 5 wkts
A great team perfomance from CCC made this victory.
Debutant bowlers, Glenn Carlton (not 18 yrs old), and Edward Wharton (18 yr old), provided descipline opening spells, even though the dominant Midlands open bat punished anything off length or line. First change bowlers Mark Smith & Waqas Hussain continued that form. At 23 overs Daniel Yarnley's spin was introduced, and captured the danger wicket as Mohammed took on the fartherest boundary, only to be caught 1 yrd inside. The final 16 overs were perticular impressive from the CCC bowlers against a team only 2 wkts down on a hard track ; less than 90 runs, taking taking 6 wickets.
In Waqas Hussain we have our dominate open bat. He will make more runs against equally strong bowling ; 20 out. A promoted no. 3 in Furruhk Chodhry performed more than what was asked of him, and made sure any loose ball went to the boundary. All the time Tom Cullen was at the other end as the 'rock'. Mark Smith kept the run rate at a comfortable level. Our yongest ever Representative XI player, 16 yr old Dan Matthews was rewarded for helping the team (& he enjoyed the experience), before Hamzah Khan and Tom ensured victory with 3.3 overs left.
