Match report:
Jersey National XI - 165 all out (40 overs)
CCC Representative XI - 114 all out (29.2 overs)
Both teams turned up on a sunny morning at Watford Town Cricket Club very keen to get a game on even though the heavy overnight rain meant a damp pitch. The Watford Town Cricket Club ground staff did a fantastic job to make sure that the game started only half an hour later then the scheduled start.
The CCC side won the toss and elected to bowl first. This decision seemed like the most sensible thing to do and was justified when captain Wes Morrick had his opposite number caught and bowled to the 2nd ball of the match. Once the Jersey batsmen acclimatised themselves to the wicket they started to build useful partnerships with A Farley (18), B Stevens (26), C Bisson (26) and A Cooke (22) making good contributions, however A Dewhurst made a very disciplined and determined 56 which took the final innings total to respectful 165-6 from the allotted 40 over's. The pick of the CCC bowlers was T Afridi who finished with 2-37 and he was ably supported by A Malik 1-21 and W Morrick 1-33.
The CCC innings got off to a worse start then their counterparts when R Hindley was out to the first ball of the innings. The Jersey bowlers kept a very disciplined approach to their bowling attack which was well supported by an energetic fielding display. They also kept taking regular CCC wickets and never really let any form of partnership to build. H Khan applied himself well to the drying wicket and made a solid 29, in between the CCC were not helped by three very careless run outs and although T Afridi made a quick and powerful 29 the CCC lost momentum and fell short by finishing on 114 all out in the 29th over. The pick of the Jersey bowlers were P Connolly 3-32, A Cooke 2-19, and J Faudemer 2-20.
The game was played in excellent spirits between both sides.
