Chemplast Sanmar - 184 for 9 wkts
CCC - 138 all out
Chemplast Sanmar won by 46 runs
Hailing from Tamil Nadu in India and boosting a host of players with first class experience, Chemplast completed their highly successful tour of England at Wanstead CC.
Despite having to make 7 changes to the originally selected side, predominantly due to call ups of players to County second elevens and Minor Counties, the Conference fielded a strong XI on a dull day, and on winning the toss, elected to bowl first in helpful conditions.
Debutants Mubashir Hassan ( Hampstead CC) and Basil Akram (Hornsey CC) opened the bowling and both caused problems for the Chemplast top order as they got the ball to seam. Hassan had the early success claiming both openers, bowled and caught in the slips respectively and his spell set the standards for the innings as a whole. Chemplast were unable to slip the shackles of CCC's accurate attack and aggressive field settings. In the middle overs, Waqas Hussain (Slough CC) and the excellent Richard Hindley (Havant CC) picked up 5 wickets between them as the visitors failed to accelerate their run rate whilst losing wickets regularly. Their final score at 50 overs was 184-9, indebted as they were to Kudua for his 48 to hold the middle order together. Hindley ended with figures of 3-19 from 10 overs, displaying wonderful control of flight and pace with his suffocating off spin.
CCC commenced their innings with high expectations, the conditions unaltered from the start of the match. However, it became clear that Chemplast's strong suit was their bowling, with both their openers playing regular first class cricket. They reduced the Conference to 18-5 with outstanding bowling, mixing pace with swing and masterly control of seam that proved too hot for the top order batsmen.
Jonathan Das (Wanstead CC) and Richard Sillars came together for the only meaningful stand of the innings, Sillars being very aggressive as he tried to apply momentum to a shriven innings. They put on 55 together before Sillars perished playing one big shot too many but Das remained very composed at the other end and as partners begun to run out, expanded his shot selection against spinners struggling slightly with a wet ball.
Das completed a very fine half century on debut, eventually falling for 66 as the last man out; CCC's innings ended at 138 all out. Jesuraj, with a first class bowling average of 25 in Ranji Trophy cricket, ended with the impressive figures of 4-20 off his 10 overs.
Whilst the result was disappointing the Conference were able to blood three new cricketers in Hassan, Akram and Das that clearly have much to offer in future; Chemplast confirmed that the Conference bowling attack was the strongest they had faced on tour, but that said, their attack would win leagues in this country as it contained quality in all departments.
The Conference would like to thank Wanstead CC for hosting a fascinating fixture and its players on the day for making themselves available, many at very short notice.
