Player dual registration

Has anyone been involved with leagues that allow dual-registration (perhaps for under 19s) or that allow registration for two clubs in an area where they play in different leagues within the same county pyramid structure ie lower league club acting as a pseudo 2nd team for the higher league club?

If so, how does it operate and what are the actual pros and cons of such a set up? Has it resulted in more 'single team' clubs surviving or has it ultimately led to a takeover by any other name? Did any of the clubs/league have issues with the ECB feeder system (this has been quoted to me in my local area as a block to such an idea).
