Ahmad Elech, received his CCC Cap (No. 262)
from Stan Nicholson, CCC Manager of
Cricket and Finance, prior to the CCC Representative XI
match at Tunbridge Wells CC against the MCC, on Wednesday 18
August.
Ahmed has played 37
matches for the CCC since 2012. A top
order batsman who also provides useful medium seam, he has scored 1158 runs at 32.17,
and taken 12 wickets at 17.50 for the CCC. Ahmad was with
Holtwhites Trinibis CC (Herts) when he first represented the CCC, and most of his
top club career has been with Ealing CC, with a short spell at Stanmore CC. He
has been a ‘back-bone’ to both those club’s in League and Cup Competition
matches.
Nine years
commitment to CCC cricket is a long time in the
modern game, He would have received his CCC Cap much earlier
but his business, carpet importing, is mainly done off-season, and that
prevented him for joining any of the tours we have made in the last 9 years.
From 1922 to 1947, CCC Caps were awarded
to any player representing the Conference in a full representative match for
the first time. Thereafter Caps were awarded (& numbered) at the discretion
of the CCC Executive Council, although since the mid
1970’s they have mainly been awarded to players undertaking a major overseas
tour.
With the CCC tour
programme now mainly short tours to ICC Associate countries, the CCC decided to award
Caps to those who have played 25 or more Representative & Tour matches.
