Darren Ironside - CCC Capped Player No. 263

Darren Ironside, received his CCC Cap (No. 263) from Stan Nicholson, CCC Manager of Cricket and Finance, prior to the CCC Representative XI match at Brondesbury CC against the MCC, on Wednesday 24 August.

An instant success when as a replacement for Wanstead captain, Joe Ellis-Grewall, on our late season weekend tour to Jersey in 2016, he top scored with 56* in the Sunday match. A genuine top order batsman / off spin bowler, Darren has played now 39 matches for the CCC, scored 999 runs (top score 143) at 32.23, and taken 37 wickets at 31.62. Originally with Buckhurst Hill CC, and now with Mildenhall CC, those 39 CCC matches show his commitment to our cricket, and has on a number of occasions captained.the team. He is also a regular with Suffolk CCC in minor counties cricket.

From 1922 to 1947, CCC Caps were awarded to any player representing the Conference in a full representative match for the first time. Thereafter Caps were awarded (& numbered) at the discretion of the CCC Executive Council, although since the mid 1970’s they have mainly been awarded to players undertaking a major overseas tour.

With the CCC tour programme now mainly short tours to ICC Associate countries, the CCC decided to award Caps to those who have played 25 or more Representative & Tour matches.
