A new name will appear on the ‘battered-old cup’, contested for the last 41 years: the Elliott Davis London Cricket League.
They managed to break the cycle of the same finalists between 2012 to 2014, and convincingly defeated the 2013 winner, the Kent Cricket League Division 1 & 2 team by 4 wickets, played at Winchmore Hill CC, on Tuesday 4th August.
Kent won the toss, and batted first on a cloudy, sometimes grey day. The scores of the first 5 Kent batsmen speaks for itself; all scoring more than 20, but 32 being the highest score. There was nothing wrong with their run-rate, but 110 for 4 after 24 overs, needed to become 230 plus after 45. But they were all out in the 40th over, for only 180. Veteran left arm spinner, Mohammad Fayyas Khan took 5 wickets for 24 runs; a performance that won him the Man-of-the-Match award.
Kent could not make the early break-through needed of the Elliott Davis innings. Both opening batsman played with freedom, then no. 3 bat, Mohammad Akhtar played a correct/dominant innings of 63 from 73 balls, to ensure minimal concerns for the remaining batsman, Kent captain, Liam Tegg, showed position field placings and bowling changes, that was rewarded with 3 wickets around the 30 over mark, but the score was nearly 150 then. Victory was achieved in the 38th over.
